Major past and ongoing projects

CZ Biom has gained in the last years many experiences through executing and cooperation on national and international projects. Some of the major recent projects are listed below.

GreenGain is a European project started in 2015 which is looking for solutions to increase energy utilisation of biomass feedstock coming from landscape conservation and maintenance work carried out in public interest. The greenGain project is funded by EU program for research and innovation Horizon 2020. The lead partner is Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V from Germany. It brings together eight partners from Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Spain. The project started in 2015 and continues until the end of 2017. INFORMATION PLATFORM

Horizon 2020

The SolidStandards project aims at gathering and spreading first experiences with the practical implementation of new European standards in biofuel production and logistics. The consortium will support 7 selected companies (solid biofuel producers, traders, end-users) in standard implementation through the elaboration of feasibility studies, product testing and quality management.

“Central Europe Repair & Re-use Centres and Networks” – is an EU funded program implemented through the CENTRAL EUROPE Programme and co-financed by the ERDF that started in April 2011 and will last for 3,5 years. During this time the consortium of 9 partners from 7 different Central Europe countries carried out evaluation, quality management and dissemination activities in the field of re-use and repair of waste products as a new form of waste treatment both on national and on transnational level.

  Geronimo 2

Geronimo 2 is a 30 month initiative, supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme, which aims to work closely with dairy and pig farmers from across Europe to unlock the potential that biogas can offer as a cost effective and environmentally friendly means of managing manure.

This project supports final textile fibres (Textile and Clothing industry) with its starting bio-materials (biomass SME companies) through the intermediate transformation of bio-materials to bio-based synthetic fibres (Chemicals industry). Ecolastane has been designed to overcome the technical obstacles by three European SME Associations: TECHTERA (Technical Textiles Rhône-Alpes, France); AMIQ (Asociación Murciana de Industrias Químicas, Spain); CZ Biom (Czech Biomass Association, Czech Republic).

Compo-Ball is developing a new system for monitoring the temperature and humidity during composting processes. The 3-year research project is funded by the European Commission and brings together 16 partners from 9 European countries. The aim is to bring affordable wireless composting-sensors to the European composting industry.
FP7 programme

Supported by the European Commission, the international project consortium of BIO-HEAT forces the implementation of Short Rotation Coppice in Eastern Europe. Project aim is the use of woodchips produced by SRC`s for co-firing and as a combustible for district heating plants.

  Czech Biomass Action Plan

Following the recommendation in EU COM(2005)628 will be submitted for hearing by the government of Czech Republic by Ministry of Agriculture. Action plan has been elaborated by Czech Biomass Association and contains: analysis of the biomass market in Czech Republic, estimation of biomass potential in the Czech Republic, technical analysis, analysis of the environmental effects, and detailed classification of  renewable energy sources (RES) – kinds, yields, and experience. Creating several opportunity studies for different kinds of biomass with diverse output parameters and creating database of technology.

Fostering the Sustainable Usage of Renewable Energy Sources in Central Europe – Putting Biomass into Action! – The Project 4Biomass, funded by the CENTRAL EUROPE Programme, will foster the sustainable use of bioenergy throughout Central Europe.
Cetral Europe programme

Production of energy crops –  EU funded research project “Solutions for the safe application of wastewater and sludge for high efficient biomass production in Short-Rotation-Plantations” on the utilization of fertilizing effects of sewage waters for the production of short rotation coppice –

Verification and support of energy crops

Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture the verification of energy crops by harvesting, monitoring the growth quality, promotion and consulting service on biomass utilization had been carried on in year 2005, 2006 and is onward in 2007.

Waste housekeeping and dissemination

Capacity building for the support of fulfilling the waste management plan of municipalities and regions with the participation of public in the Regions of Plzeň and South-Bohemia. The aims of the projects are the education and cooperation in household waste. The project is exceptional by connecting the experts from non-governmental environmental and business field with regional municipalities or villages. Due to the cooperation the quality of the information services for public should be increased and the public should get involved in the regional improvement of household waste management.   European Social Fund

Dissemination – documentary film – Project CEA (Czech Energetic Agenture) “Electricity from biomass”. In this project a documentary film on biomass utilization has been created. This has been created for purposes of dissemination. The film should reach most of the society in Czech Republic and give some basic overview on biomass utilization and renewable energy sources topic in general.

Biomass energy utilization and biomass potential – Project „Feasibility of harvesting energy crops on the farmlands within the districts Mělník and Litoměřice“. The paper producing company Mondi Packaging Paper Štětí a.s., has shown the interest to increase the production of energy from renewable sources of energy. For this purpose has CZ Biom estimated the potential of biomass in the area within the range of 40 km. Part of the project was as well to establish the contacts between Mondi and farmers which will harvest and deliver energy crops for power production.

Biomass energy utilization – Project Strategy MAS Vltava for utilization of energy from biomass. In this project a study on biomass potential in the micro region Vltavínsko has been made. Based on this knowledge, the different models for utilization of the remains from timber logging and wood production had been created. As well the feasibility of heating several dwelling houses with the remains of agricultural production and utilization of the combination several fermentation technologies has been investigated.

Biomass energy utilization – Energy self-sufficient village in the Region of Ústí nad Labem. The aim of the project had been set to create an exemplary model of energy self-sufficient village in the region as a record for further decision making for other projects on energy conservation and renewable energy sources utilization Three studies on energy perspectives, potential of energy conservation and utilization of renewable energy sources for the period of 2006 – 2020 had been the major outcomes of the project. Part of the study has been recommendation for the villages how to plan efficiently the further development and about the possibilities of financing their future projects from the funds of the EU.

Dissemination – TV serial – Popular science“ television serial „Energy of the 21st century“, ALTENER project in cooperation with POLBIOM and Czech Television (Czech main state television channel).
